We have finally resolved the long lasting problem of the year 2000 (Y2K). For those who may not know the problem closely -- here is a short notice. The year 2000 problem or also known as Y2K is what most companies and institutions based on computer support aware of. It is believed that when the year 2000 comes, some computer systems may have a disruption in their work. That is because some computers will count the year 2000 as 00 and that 00 number might be processed incorrectly. Computers might mistake the year 2000 with 1900 that may cause some problems.
The problem is applicable especially to old and big computers like main frames that were designed to be replaced before the year 2000. Actually the problem was not really known until now -- that's why everybody is aware of the problem now.
When year 2000 comes computer based companies, factories and institutions may have some trouble if the problem isn't fixed beforehand. For example there might be electrical power disruptions when the year 2000 comes. Or even more sadly, nuclear power plants may react inappropriately by not responding to human commands, stopping the cooling process and more. All this may cause an uncontrolled nuclear reaction that can take place inside of the reactor and we all can get second Chernobyl.
The same think is applicable not only to power plants but also to military installations, tactical weapons of mass destruction, airoplanes, airports, control centres, satellites, credit card operations and much, much more.
But don't be afraid, not everything is so disastrous. As the problem is known, people around the world are working around the clock to protect their local installations and services from disrupter. Hopefully the problem can be fixed and there are ways being already found and steps being taken to prevent this horrible Y2K problem.
